COMMUNITY OUTREACH AND EDUCATION

Call (410) 554-8467

Community Outreach programs seek to both provide services and inform community members about domestic violence and the House Of Ruth. Workshops, trainings, and short-term groups are available at substance abuse treatment programs, parent support centers, and medical clinics. Consultation on cases and peer supervision is also available. Community Outreach programs strive to make services more accessible and culturally competent.

DISABILITY TRAINING AND OUTREACH

Call (410) 554-8467

In the past three years the House Of Ruth has worked with partnering programs in the disability community to increase awareness of Domestic Violence and abuse against women with disabilities. Our programs provide workshops at disability programs to increase the ability of staff to recognize, assess, and provide assistance to abuse victims. Disability programs have trained the staff at the House Of Ruth on how to respectfully ask people about their disabilities, how to provide empowering interventions, and how to make our programs more accessible to people with disabilities.

In addition we provide workshops for people with disabilities. These workshops cover topics like: abuse-power & control, healthy relationships, creating healthy boundaries, dealing with anger in relationships, what is sexual harassment and sexual abuse. Our hope is that we can prevent abuse before it happens by educating the public to the dynamics and signs of abuse. For our clients in the disabled community we want to do this in a way that addresses their additional needs or accommodations.
