When victims show up at our door, they come with very little, other than their children and their lives. At the House of Ruth Maryland, we provide the food, shelter, counseling, legal and other services that will ensure their continued survival.
It's not a small undertaking, especially since police estimate that there are more than 200,000 incidents of domestic abuse in Maryland each year. Your generosity makes our work possible, and in return we work very hard to ensure every dollar you give makes a real difference in the lives of battered women and their children.
The House Of Ruth Maryland thanks you for your support, as do all the victims who couldn't live without it.
Want to make a difference?
Here's how you can help...
I can afford $5/week ($260/year)
I'd like to buy:
- 1 week of daycare for children in shelter so their mom can attend appointments and look for work or a place to live.
- Legal representation and accompaniment for 3 victims of domestic violence.
- Crisis Counseling and follow-up services for 3 victims of domestic violence.
- 1 half-day training so more people can learn about domestic violence and how they can help.
I can afford a donation of $1,000
I'd like to buy:
- Legal representation and accompaniment for 12 victims of domestic violence.
(92% of women reported they had not been hurt or threatened since being represented in court by a House of Ruth Maryland attorney, and 88% reported feeling safer.)
- 15 sessions of children's group therapy.
(Roughly 75% of children witness domestic violence in the home.)
- Coverage for 50 hotline crisis calls so victims can get emotional support, safety planning and linked to services.
(Available 24 hours/day, 7 days a week. Last year the hotline recorded 4,510 calls. With the help of 90 donors, we can continue to be the first line of defense.)
- 1 week of meals for women and children in shelter.
(Can't cook? Don't worry, with your donation our food service professionals will be able to keep everyone happy and healthy.)
- 10 group sessions for abusive men to learn new about equality, power and control and the aspects of a healthy relationship.
(Because if we don't teach them new beliefs and behaviors, who will?)
